Leighton Fairlie - Galaxy - Single Release

Leighton Fairlie’s new single Galaxy is a nod to some of the fresher tracks in the post modernist dub industry. A genre made famous in New Zealand by the likes of Fat Freddy's Drop and Salmonella Dub who took it across to Europe and the rest of the world.

Leighton Fairlie is an Auckland via Mount Maunganui based loop artist. This brand new project sees him mixing a range of dub, roots, hip hop, drum and bass and acoustic elements into a captivating and unique sound.

Galaxy references tough times in love and relationships. Trying to push through negative thoughts to find contentment.

In the song, Leighton mentions “we could travel the world to find the answers, but everything could remain the same”. This calls to his belief that love is all around us. We don’t need to search to find it. It’s right in front of us. It’s a challenge, but it’s there.

The track features a strong reference to the multi instrument looping style which audiences have come to know from Leightons live appearances.

This piece was recorded, mixed and produced by Cy from ‘Knights of The Dub Table’. The influence is quite clear and one can only hope that the collaboration will bring us more of this lesser heard sound to popular radio this summer.

Leighton looks forward to sharing Galaxy with you on December 13th with the remainder of his EP across all digital music retailers following in March to round out what is quickly becoming a fantastic season for the talented individual.
